Queen's University Archives preserves and provides access to records of the University, the Kingston region, and private manuscripts covering areas of literary papers, public affairs, businesses, non-profits, art and architecture, and much more. Queen's Archives holds textual records (letters, manuscripts), photographs, sound recordings, film and video, and digital records, among other formats.

Archival item retrieval
- The Archive’s physical collection is non-circulating, meaning that the items cannot be taken out of the building. The archives are stored in staff-only areas, and staff would be happy to retrieve these items for you. Items retrieved from the Archives may be viewed in the Reading Room. You can search archival holdings online.
Conservation
- Conservation is a fundamental responsibility of Queen’s University Archives. A professional conservator directs a programme of preventive conservation and conservation treatment with the assistance of a conservation clerk. Art Conservation students have engaged in unique opportunities conservation activities with the archival material available on campus.

Accessibility at Kathleen Ryan Hall

The main entrance into the Archives is not accessible. The accessible entrance is located in the rear of Kathleen Ryan Hall on the north side of the building, off the Miller Hall parking lot.

Street parking area is available on Arch Street and Union Street. Permit parking is available in the Miller Hall parking lot.

The elevator is located directly across from the accessible entry area.

Accessible washrooms are located on each floor of the building.

Reading Room

Plan your visit

During the initial visit to the Queen's University Archives, researchers are asked to complete a registration form. Researchers should discuss their research project with the reference archivist on duty in the reading room. During the interview, the archivist will make the researcher aware of the major holdings available at the Queen's University Archives relating to their topic. The archivist will explain the finding aids, and online database, as well as important reference tools available in the reading room. Finding aids and lists of collections for other archival repositories are also available for consultation.
